Labor Council delegates and community supporters joined with UFCW Local 5 members
working at CVS in San Jose last month as part of a state-wide campaign to win a fair contract for
thousands of workers at one of the most profitable health care companies in the United States.
Bargaining issues include wages, affordable health care, safe worksites, and safe staffing,
particularly in the store’s pharmacies.
Negotiations are underway but little progress has been made, according to Local 5 President
John Frahm.
“It’s outrageous that a health care company that made more than $1 billion in profit last year is
unwilling to provide health benefits that its employees can afford.”
Additional negotiation dates are set through August and additional store actions are in the
works.
