Leaders Call for Coordinated Response to H.R. 1 Impacts

On Friday, March 20, during the Santa Clara County Finance and Government Operations Committee (FGOC) hearing, leaders emphasized the urgent need for a coordinated response to the impacts of H.R. 1.

The hearing brought together local officials, advocates, and community stakeholders to assess how federal policy decisions could affect critical services and funding streams that working families rely on every day. From healthcare access to public sector resources, the potential ripple effects underscore the importance of proactive planning and collaboration.

Speakers highlighted that no single level of government can address these challenges alone. Local, state, and federal leaders must work in partnership to protect essential services, stabilize funding, and ensure that communities—especially those most vulnerable—are not left behind.

For working people, the stakes are high. Cuts or disruptions to public programs don’t just impact services—they affect jobs, economic stability, and the overall well-being of our communities. Labor leaders and allies are calling for solutions that center workers, protect good union jobs, and maintain the infrastructure that supports families across the region.

As discussions continue, one thing remains clear: when leaders align their efforts and prioritize the needs of working families, we can build real, lasting solutions that strengthen our communities and uphold our shared values.
